He is considered a talented mind and a great artist, he is widely remembered to the famous artwork: Mona Lisa (the picture besides this).
THE 1400s
In 1480, Leonardo recieved 2 very important commissions and commenced another work which is brilliant in terms of composition. 2 of the 3 picture were never finished, the 3rd one took so long that it was subjected to lengthy negotiations over completion and payment. One of these painting is called "St.Jerome in The Wild". Even though the painting is barely begun, we can still see the rather unusual composition. In the picture, St.Jerome is set in the middle of the picture with his arm stretching and his eyes gazing the opposite direction. His sitting pose make a trapizium. J.Wasserman has linked this to his anatomical studies. One more remarkable feature is a sketchy rock background.

The famous artwork: Mona Lisa is believed to be painted between 1503 & 1506 and it was still worked on until the year 1517 using oil. The painting is thought to be a half-lenght portrait of Lisa Gherardini who is the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. Now the picture is owned by French republic and displayed in the Lorve museum. The name's meaning is ma'am Lisa.
Theft
The painting's fame was emphasised when it was stolen on 21 August 1911. The next day, Louis Béroud, a painter, walked into the Louvre and went to the Salon Carré where the Mona Lisa had been on display for five years. However, where the Mona Lisa should have stood, he found four iron pegs. Béroud contacted the section head of the guards, who thought the painting was being photographed for marketing purposes. A few hours later, Béroud checked back with the section head of the museum, and it was confirmed that the Mona Lisa was not with the photographers. The Louvre was closed for an entire week to aid in investigation of the theft.
